PEOPLE JUST LIKE YOU AND ME ATTEMPT TO DISCERN THE MEANING BEHIND THE LYRICS OF A SONG

Attempting to comprehend the meaning behind the lyrics of a song has long troubled a great many people.Since childhood I have been plagued by questions about the lyrics to the mega hit ‘Loverboy’ song ‘Working for the Weekend’. Many a time did I wonder upon hearing that song if what was being described was a reality beyond my experience or just the fevered imagination of the song writer. Perhaps you, like me, have contemplated the ultimate meaning of this song or others, but, sadly, left to your own devices never felt wholly satisfied in the conclusions you came to. Well, now, thanks to the internet it is possible to explore the musings of others (searching for answers) about the many impenetrable mysteries regarding the lyrics of popular music songs.

So, please, if you have been searching (alone and isolated as I have) listen again to ‘Working for the Weekend’ and then review its possible meanings taken from the archives at songmeanings.com.

it always came to me as a story of all these people going out to party on the weekend, hence “everybody’s workin’ for the weekend” and they get in some fight or someone gets killed or something.

Everyone’s looking to see if it was you
Everyone wants you to come through
Everyone’s hoping it’ll all work out
Everyone’s waiting they’re holding out

or maybe somebody got arrested? i ‘unno

“Working For The weekend” means, you show up at your jobs all week so you can (afford to) cut loose on the weekends.

I believe it’s about working FOR the weekend…when most dates occur. Each time I meet a guy and find him interesting, I check him out to see if he could be someone who would make a great life partner…fun, exciting, daring, not a fan of the tv or sports on tv, someone who loves to dance, party, laugh (a lot), who’s an intellectual, and who is very bright. I’ve been meeting them and laughing with them. So this song, to me, is about working hard through the week so one can enjoy the weekend. We all need some down time. And we each are looking for that right person. I pray I find him. I just haven’t met him yet, as the song goes.

i think this song refers to drugs and the narrator is the drug dealer

Everyone’s watching, to see what you will do
Everyone’s looking at you, oh
Everyone’s wondering, will you come out tonight
Everyone’s trying to get it right, get it right

i think this means all the addicts are obsessed with your schedule and are dying to know if your going to bring the drugs

This song is about people working during the weekend.A person could say something like “I’m boating for the weekend” which would mean that they are spending their weekend boating.Saying “I’m working for the weekend” would be along the same lines meaning that the person is going to be working all weekend. The fact that the person in the song is working during the weekend is why everyone wonders if that person will come out tonight or if they will just keep working.Romance is desired for the person since they are stuck at the office all weekend working and this over working explains why the person is going off the deep end.The second chance needed would be another chance for the person at life in order to acquire a job that would not require them to work during weekends. So in conclusion, this song is about people who have jobs which require them to miss their social life since they work during weekends and these people’s desire to start over with a new career in a better life.
